etsy finds: unisex and masculine gifts

In talking with some of my friends, I realized it can be a little difficult to find gifts for the more masculine individual,or even something that’s more unisex and not pink or blue. Most of the things I found were mugs that said “Greatest Dad” or hunting shirts. I don’t know very many people that like either one of those. Here’s a few finds that I think would work great for someone whose a little more masculine, or gender neutral.

It feels like December is already flying by! Just a few days left of shopping.. kind of.

etsy finds: candles galore and a DIY

I’ve always believed one of the most universal gifts to give is a candle. Whether it be a tea light candle, a scented candle, or even a candle holder. You’d be really hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t enjoy some form of a candle. Even those that don’t like a scented candle, there’s so many options out there! I especially love all the candle holders!

candlesgifts:: forest green soy candle :: red ball candle ::
:: beeswax owl candle :: cinnamon and clove soy candle ::

If you aren’t looking for a candle, there are some great candle holder, votive holder, and even DIY projects out there. Buy a pack of tea light candles from somewhere like Ikea (I STILL have a bag full of them after my most recent purchased that was 2 years ago!) and you can come up with a dozen great ideas for them.

candleholder1:: geometric wood candle holders :: rustic candle holders ::
:: ceramic candle holder :: hanging jar candle holder ::

See, so many fantastic candles and candle holders out there! I, of course, am a firm believer in making things yourself. It adds that special touch to all gifts, and lets you get a bit creative. One of my favorite DIY projects I’ve found lately is for a porcelain holiday tree candle holder. It’s just too cute not to share!

This DIY only really requires several materials and supplies, surprisingly simple for such an amazing piece. I love the inspiration for it. I so very often go into Target and look through their home section just to leave disappointed. I can never bring myself to spend so much money on items I could make at home. Except maybe the bar cart lately, I should talk myself into buying that.. and some of their cute linens… and shoes.. Ok. I just love Target.

But back to the DIY. I’m hoping to create something so very similiar as a Christmas gift this year.

See, how can you not love the idea of giving a candle gift set to someone! It’s so versatile and there’s just a million options out there.

etsy finds: stocking stuffers for under $20

On this next installment of etsy finds, I bring you some great stocking stuffers for under $20! One of the hardest things about the holidays is spending money. We all want to make sure we tell those people in our lives that they mean the world to us, without going bankrupt. This is definitely wear buying local and handmade comes in handy.

I love etsy for that reason. So many great finds! Ok, so moving on. Here are some stocking stuffer ideas to get you started.

stockingstuffers1:: full moon journal :: the exfoliant scrub soap :: coconut oil sugar scrub ::

stockingstuffers2:: perpetual calendar :: cozy slippers ::
:: build your own terrarium :: infinity bracelet ::

im pretty much a party animal

I’m slowly coming back to the land of the living! I can breathe fully out of one nostril, and my sense of taste is starting to come back. Do you know what that means?!

Of course you don’t.. It means I sat at the dining room table and ate 10 mini reeses cups! er.. Yeah, I did.

To celebrate not being out of my mind sick, I’m having a glass of wine and watching Kh play Skyrim. Exciting, right? I like it when she dragon shouts at things, I’ll randomly yell “FOSH ROOOW DAH” and continue with my business. I’m sure she appreciates it as well. She gave me the hairy eyeball about my glass of wine, but I simply told her I’m pre-gaming for tomorrows holiday bash. I think I’m completely in the right on this one.

I want to get my blog caught up on all the happenings since I’ve been sick.

So, let’s start with precisely one week ago. Right before I got hit with the worst of my cold, my good friend CF came over for pizza and wine night. She brought her 6month old puppy so I could finally meet her and we did a small gift exchange. I used to see this girl every day for about 3 years, and now every few months we get together. We’d spend days so hungover we couldn’t talk to anyone at work, go out dancing, and generally cause an obscene amount of tomfoolery. Oh, yeah and scavenge left over french fries like we were wild hyenas. She’s hilarious, and I just adore her. I know she’s reading this, so hey CF!

She knows me too well. Look at this owl mug! Complete with hot chocolate and chocolate covered marshmallows (that are individually wrapped?!) to put in it. Ridiculously cute. I told Kh to keep her grubby paws away from those marshmallows..

The next night we had Christmas at Kh’s best friends house. We stuck with stocking prizes this year, and ran so late by the time we got there everyone was 2 seconds from bed time. I love being included in this Christmas tradition, and even more so love the taco cups her friend Bman makes.

I made out. Amiright? Everyone jokes about how easy I am to buy for, but I pretty much am the easiest person to buy for.

My goodies included:
:: The owl mug I talked about in my coffee talk post. SERIOUSLY how can you not love this thing? It’s huge!
:: SKULL shaped sprinkles
:: Peanut butter M&M’s (I know I don’t like many sweets, but come.. the eff.. on..)
:: Biore pore perfect strips – yes
:: A starbucks gift card
:: No sew fabric glue – I’ll take 300 thanks
:: 2 pairs of knee high stocking-like-socks – yes and yes

Then this past weekend we partook in more consumerism in overly crowded stores filled with cranky people. It was great.

2 out of the 4 days this week I was non-stop until about 6pm, starting at 10:30. Which usually means I’m in my car driving, walking, driving, running, driving. Today was my first mildly easy day all week. I took advantage of it by stopping back home to eat my left over chinese food for lunch. And another reeses mini. What? I’m addicted. It’s a sign my business is taking off, without me even taking the first steps. I’m slightly terrified, wondering if it’s really what I want, and slightly elated. Let’s just see where this goes, shall we?

I’ve moved onto my second glass of wine, Kh is still playing Skyrim, and some how mac and cheese is cooking on my stove. I better go see what that’s about.

materialistic monday act 2

In this installment of materialistic shit I want, I’m actually going to be getting one of these dresses, if I haven’t ordered it already. Every year around Christmas Kh’s company has a Christmas dinner/party that usually entails getting all spiffed up for. The first year I went happened to be last year and she totally psyched me out over it. This year I know what to expect a bit more, so it’s making finding a dress a bit easier.

I actually don’t like parties, but I do love having an excuse to buy a nice dress. Especially an expensive one (ha haaa).

Pinup Girl Clothing is probably one of my all time favorite sites to buy fancy schmancy dresses at. They have a wide variety of styles, and an even wider variety of dresses that are open in the hip region. Can you guess what my top 3 dresses are?

a booze and bond filled weekend

I didn’t want to harp too much on Thanksgiving festivities, other than my thankful posts this year. Truth be told I’ve never been much for the Holidays (shhh). I took a 4 day weekend this past weekend to try and do a bit of recouping, the first time in about 9 months I’d voluntarily taken a day off. We packed up the car and left for CT late Wednesday night. Traffic is usually unbearable around Thanksgiving, but we escaped unscathed.

Thanksgiving was filling and relaxing. We sat around most of the day and spent the night drinking too much white wine. Leading to the tiniest of hangovers while trying to get some Black Friday shopping done. I needed to start on my Holiday shopping, and forget every year how terrible it is out there on BF. The girls came with us and had far too much fun terrorizing Kh’s parents german shepard through a fence, and staring out the glass window at the neighbors.

We got home Friday and of course had to put up the Christmas tree.

Saturday I tried to continue doing some Xmas shopping, and just ended up having a mini anxiety breakdown after 2 stores. My biggest issue with this time of year is the constant push for cheer and good will towards your fellow woman (or man), when in reality everyone turns into a raving lunatic. I got lost in a store for 20 minutes because of the crowds going crazy for a raffle. Or maybe my sense of direction failed me.. either way.. Scary! We played it safe the rest of the night and had a quiet night at home. Making art, sipping gin and tonics, and watching Dark Shadows.

We got stir crazy Sunday afternoon (after I spent the morning dissecting owl pellets, post coming up next!) and went to see the new Bond movie, Skyfall. I was enthralled with the opening credits, and the rest of the movie wasn’t half bad either. My local theater serves booze, so that certainly helps with any movie.

Yay weekends! Now back to the daily grind. I’m so busy this week; my post is even a day late.
